TV
The television is on a swivel mount and can be turned/adjusted if you would like a better view from the dining table! Please return the TV to the original position (flush against the wall) when done.
Entertainment console
This is a fun piece of furniture that Josh picked out! It's an old record player that was converted into a storage console and stereo. By lifting the top right, you will find the storage bowl for the keys. Alexa controls the stereo inside. Try "Alexa, play top hits" to play music and "Alexa, turn volume up" to increase the volume. Board games and card games are located inside the coffee table in the living room.
Preparing
The garbage disposal is operated by the sink top push button.
Spices, salt, and pepper can be found in the cabinet above the microwave and stove (if they are not on the counter).
Small kitchen appliances include: blender, crockpot, toaster, air fryer, hand mixer, and Keurig K-Duo.
Dining
We love entertaining, so we made sure to stock our kitchen with large bowls, serving trays, and appetizer dishes! We also have plenty of tumblers (glass and plastic), wine glasses, coffee cups, shot glasses, and beer mugs. Plastic plates, bowls, cups, and utensils are available for our younger guests as well!
The HVAC system is brand new as of March 2022. The system is controlled by two remotes. The remote on the first floor controls the main unit and the one upstairs controls the unit at the top of the stairs. PLEASE make sure both units are set to the same function (i.e. both set to heat or both set to cool). Simply press up or down to adjust the temperature on the remote.
Please make sure remotes stay in the appropriate holders on the wall. For the most comfortable climate inside, we recommend leaving bedroom doors open and fans on. This optimizes air flow throughout the home (particularly upstairs) and keeps bedrooms from getting too warm in the summer and too chilly in the winter!
Upstairs Bathroom
Our house is almost 100 years old and the plumbing pipes are narrow. For the best water pressure when taking a shower/bath, do not start the washing machine immediately before showering/bathing. PLEASE be sure that the shower curtain is closed when the shower is in use (and liner is properly inside the tub) and be cautious if littles are splashing in the bath. We have put a larger bathmat in the bathroom, but if water puddles or accumulates on the bathroom floor, it will travel to the vent between the master bedroom and living room, causing a leak from the ceiling. We've had this inspected by several plumbers, but unfortunately, it is due to the grade of the flooring. Inside the vanity, you will find a hair dryer and a large hand mirror hanging on hooks.
Pop-up Work Area
If you need to get some work done during your stay, we've got you covered! There is a collapsible desk located underneath the king bed in the master bedroom. Simply slide the desk out, fold out both sides/legs and flip the top over, then lock into place. It only takes a minute to set up and fold back down! Please collapse the desk and stow it underneath the king bed prior to checking out.
For Babies and Toddlers
We have folding step stools in both bathrooms to help the little ones reach the sinks to wash their hands and brush their teeth! We also have a pack n' play (underneath the king bed) and an IKEA high chair (on the labeled kitchen pantry shelf) available. Please bring your own crib sheet for the pack n' play.
Linens
Included: Sheets, blankets, bath towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, make-up towels, and washcloths. Not included: beach towels and pack n' play crib sheets. Please plan on bringing your own. If you happen to forget these or end up needing an extra during your stay, we try to keep some at the top of the closet in the king room in small labeled bins. If used, please wash and return them to their proper place prior to check out since they are not included in our contract with our cleaner.
We also have a countertop ironing board (hanging beside the washer/dryer) and iron (on the labeled shelf above the pantry), if needed.
Lights
Patio bistro lights are operated by the push button located next to the outdoor outlet (between the back door and patio set).
*The voice feature ("Alexa, turn patio lights off/on") is currently unavailable until we can reconnect the outdoor smart plug. We apologize for anyone that has used this fun feature before and is not able to use it now! We will be reconnecting the outdoor smart plug the next time we visit. Don't worry, voice commands still work in the living room to play music inside!
Furniture
Patio furniture cushions and pillows are stored inside the shed to help keep them clean when not in use. We appreciate you returning them to the shed prior to any inclement weather.
New to Parkside in 2023 is our outdoor shower! The shower has both hot and cold water with an abundance of hooks to hold your towels and belongings.
We still have a rinse station at the side of the house to allow for a quick rinse of beach supplies or sandy feet.

Behind the shed, we have an area for floats to be tied up behind the outdoor shower. Please be sure to tie them back down once done with use! This helps to keep our shed decluttered so that you and our other guests can find all of the fun items we have available! You will also find our kayak** hanging behind the shed.
**PLEASE NOTE: Kayak and SUP boards are for use at your own risk. We are not liable for any injury incurred while using these complimentary amenities. Please be safe, responsible, and wear a life jacket! We keep life jackets in our shed to fit our family, but are unable to provide all sizes. If you do not have your own life jacket(s) to bring, please reach out to Stacey prior to your stay and she can let you know what sizes we have and discuss rental/purchasing options in town! Additionally, we greatly appreciate you letting us know if damage occurs to any of these items so that we can repair them for all guests to enjoy!
NEW to Parkside in 2023 is a charcoal grill/smoker combo. We have Match Light charcoal as well as a barbecue utensils provided in the shed. We also have an instant read digital meat thermometer provided in the kitchen.
When preparing for use, please pull the grill out away from the fence and on to the patio. After the grill has been cleaned up and cooled down, please re-cover the grill and put it back against the fence to maximize your patio space!
Safety First!
Always wear your seatbelt. It is a law in town. Only persons with a valid drivers license may operate the golf cart. Please do not allow children to sit on a lap when riding in the golf cart.
Driving
Please do not drive the golf cart outside of town. The speed limit has been lowered to 25 mph near Cape Charles Brewing Company, which now allows for golf cart travel to and from the brewery on the main road! Please keep to streets that allow carts. The golf cart may not be driven in the park, on walkways, or on the beach.
Parking
Please keep the golf cart parked on the street in front of the house. Do not park in the alley or on the sidewalk.
Charging
Please charge the golf cart at night. When not charging, keep charger and cords in the gray outdoor box with the lid shut.
Care
Take keys inside when not using and replace lock if not using for an extended period of time (e.g. overnight). Golf cart cover is located in the outdoor box with the charger, if rain is in the forecast and you would like a dry seat after the showers/storm!
Parking Brake
This vehicle is equipped with an automatic parking brake; when the vehicle is stopped, the parking brake is automatically set. The parking brake is released when the key switch/direction selector is in forward ('F') or reverse('R') and the accelerator is depressed. In the event that the vehicle will not move in F or R (you hear a buzzing/clicking sound), tap the brake and then try gently accelerating again. You can also switch to neutral and back to F or R. Be sure to not depress the accelerator before the cart is in gear.
Headlights
The push-pull switch to turn the headlights on or off is located on the driver side, on the left, in the console.
Stereo
A bluetooth stereo is located above the rear view mirror. The power switch is located to the left of the stereo. There is a USB port on the right of the stereo if you would like to hard-connect your phone. Please be sure to turn the stereo switch back to the off position when the cart is not in use as it will continue to stay on and drain the battery, even if the cart key is in the off position.
Keys and combination
The lock combination will be provided before your stay if payment and signed waiver are received. Two keys are located inside the entertainment console on the right side, underneath the living room TV. Please be sure the keys are returned to the turtle bowl when checking out.
Empty all trash into the outdoor bins (bins are located on the north side of the house).
Start the dishwasher before you leave and make sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink.
Please leave all dirty linens on the floor by the laundry closet. Starting a load of laundry is very much appreciated, but not required!
Make sure all food is cleaned out of the refrigerator, cabinets, and pantry.
Please place all keys back in the turtle bowl inside the entertainment console, underneath the living room TV.
Look around to make sure you do not forget any personal belongings!
Make sure all windows are shut and doors are locked. Upon exiting the front door, please lock the door.
*IMPORTANT* IF both sides of the duplex are rented together (e.g. by friends/family vacationing together), please make sure to return items to their respective sides of the duplex. This is especially important for items we keep in the sheds. We try to label the more important items, but may have missed some newer ones! This helps to ensure that our next guests have the same amenities/items available that we provided for you (and advertise). We completely understand some mix-ups happening... after all, staying with friends and family is a major perk of Parkside! But we REALLY appreciate your help with this since we often have back-to-back bookings during peak season and Stacey doesn't get many opportunities to go through and reorganize things!
